Port Canaveral, FL – Celebrity Cruises has made waves at Port Canaveral with the arrival of the 2,850-passenger Celebrity Equinox. This marks a historic moment for the port, as it becomes the first time a Celebrity Cruises ship has called the Central Florida port home.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Celebrity Cruises to the Port Canaveral family,” said Captain John Murray, CEO of Port Canaveral. “The addition of the Celebrity Equinox not only strengthens our position as the world’s second-busiest cruise port but also expands the diverse range of cruise experiences we offer our guests.”
To celebrate the ship’s arrival, a traditional maritime plaque exchange ceremony was held on board, attended by Canaveral Port Authority Commissioner Fritz VanVolkenburg, Port Canaveral Director and CEO John Murray, Celebrity Equinox Captain Nikolaos Frantzis, and Celebrity Cruises Vice President of Sales The Americas Jennifer Suarez.
“At Celebrity we are continually striving to elevate our guests’ vacation experience from start to finish, and are delighted to offer even more ways to relax, unwind and explore the Caribbean,” said Laura Hodges Bethge, president of Celebrity Cruises. “The addition of Port Canaveral offers guests the ultimate flexibility for their perfect Caribbean getaway.”
The Celebrity Equinox will offer a variety of 7-day Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral, visiting popular destinations such as The Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Mexico, San Juan, and St. Maarten.
As part of Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice Series, the Equinox offers a range of luxurious amenities and world-class dining options. Guests can savor Italian cuisine at Tuscan Grille, experience interactive dining at Le Petit Chef, or relax on the ship’s half-acre lawn club.
The Equinox was built by Meyer Werft in Germany. It’s the second of five Solstice-class vessels, owned and operated by Celebrity Cruises. Its sister ships include the Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette, and Celebrity Reflection. Construction began in 2007, and the ship entered service in 2009.
