The City Council gave the green light to the $13,864.00 expenditure for the rental of Clydesdales along with a carriage capable of accommodating 20 people for the Centennial Celebration scheduled for Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 10:00 am.

When Mayor Ed Dodd sought the council members’ opinions, Councilman Fred Jones expressed enthusiasm, saying, “Let’s do it.”

Councilman Chris Nunn chimed in, highlighting the occasion’s significance, stating, “You only turn 100 once.”

Councilman Bob McPartlan sought clarification, asking, “Does this include pick-up?”

The Express Clydesdales will lead a procession along Indian River Drive, culminating in Riverview Park, the chosen venue for the festivities. Alongside the Clydesdales, their loyal Dalmatian companion, Leon, will also be in attendance.

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to celebrate Sebastian’s centennial—it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Following their journey down Indian River Drive, the Clydesdales will be available for photo ops in the park.

History

Clydesdales, renowned for their immense size and strength, trace their roots back to Clydesdale, Scotland. Originally bred for labor in both rural and urban settings, the term “Clydesdale” was formally recognized in 1826, marking the establishment of this distinctive breed. Developed through the crossbreeding of Flemish stallions with local mares, the name pays homage to the region near Scotland’s River Clyde.
