Harbor Freight May Lease Former Eckerd Building

Eckerd building at the corner of US-1 and Roseland Road.

A couple of days ago, Sebastian Daily discovered that Harbor Freight Tools might be negotiating a lease to open a store at the former Eckerd building, located at the corner of Roseland Road and U.S. Highway 1.

When we contacted Harbor Freight with questions, they verified their interest in launching a new store in the Sebastian area.

“We’re actively interested and looking to open a Harbor Freight in Sebastian, but right now, I can’t confirm anything definite,” Craig Hoffman, the Communications Director at Harbor Freight, told Sebastian Daily.

Hoffman also advised checking in again in a couple of months when he might have more details to disclose. So, while Harbor Freight has expressed an interest in Sebastian, they haven’t confirmed a specific location. Additionally, the property’s owner mentioned that the building remains available for leasing.

If discussions regarding the lease are underway with Harbor Freight, the building remains available until the lease is officially signed. Even though they’re in the early stages, Harbor Freight aims to decide within the next couple of months. It’s also possible they’re considering other properties.

Harbor Freight

It’s been nearly two decades since the Eckerd building closed its doors. In July 2004, JCPenney transferred ownership of the Eckerd outlets to CVS Corp for a whopping $4.5 billion. Most locations were transformed into CVS stores following the sale, but some remained unoccupied despite ongoing lease payments.

Harbor Freight, a leader in offering premium tools at unbeatable prices, has its headquarters in Calabasas, California. The brand, which started in 1977 as a mail-order venture, remains family-owned and operated.

With an impressive staff of over 20,000 across the U.S. and over 1,000 stores across 48 states, Harbor Freight prides itself on outperforming competitors. Most of their inventory comes directly from manufacturers and undergoes rigorous testing at their in-house quality assurance facility.

The company offers over 4,000 products, including air compressors, generators, hand tools, storage solutions, and more.

Harbor Freight already operates in Palm Bay and Vero Beach. Although giants like Walmart and Home Depot offer products in the same domain, Harbor Freight’s specialization gives it an edge. Many customers vouch for their unbeatable prices.

Sebastian Daily will keep you informed about the possible arrival of a Harbor Freight store in our area.
