Sadly, after 24-years in the Indian River Mall, Macy’s will be going out of business. It could be devastating news for the Indian River Mall as they just lost Sears in October of 2019.
“After careful consideration, Macy’s has decided to close the Macy’s Indian River Mall in Vero Beach,” Media Relations Manager Julianne Bartosz told Sebastian Daily.
According to Bartosz, the store’s clearance sale will begin in January and run for approximately 8 to 12 weeks. Thus far, they do not know exactly when the store will officially be closing.
It is not difficult to see why so many department stores are closing, as online shopping has increased dramatically over the past two years. Consumers spent over $517 billion online with U.S. merchants in 2018, which was up 15% from 2017.
Additional Stores Closing
- Macy’s, located at 1200 NE 23rd St. in Pompano Citi Centre, will be closing in the Spring.
- Macy’s, located at 330 Towne Center Cir, in Seminole Towne Center, will also be closing in approximately 8 to 12 months.
Regular, non-seasonal employees who are laid off and not able to find a job at a nearby Macy’s store will be eligible for severance, according to company representatives.
