Southeastern Grocers (SEG) informed employees at the Winn-Dixie Store in Micco, located at 7960 U.S. Highway 1, near Barefoot Bay, that it will undergo a conversion to an ALDI store starting March 17, 2025.
SEG has notified employees of the store’s conversion to ALDI, providing a 60-day notice.
While some positions will be eliminated, employees have been informed about available opportunities and options during the transition. Store associates are encouraged to apply for positions with ALDI, which would provide ALDI’s competitive pay and benefits package.
Eligible associates will be offered severance packages, whether they choose to accept or decline a position with ALDI. To be eligible, workers must continue working until the store closes or an agreed-upon earlier departure date.
ALDI offers competitive pay compared to other grocery stores, with cashiers earning between $17.50 and $19.50 per hour. Store manager trainees start at a competitive rate of $28.25 per hour and can earn up to $80,000 annually. ALDI also provides a comprehensive benefits package including a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and health insurance.
ALDI purchased 500 Winn-Dixie stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Rather than building new stores, they opted to convert existing Winn-Dixie locations to the ALDI brand.
Last month, the company issued a statement indicating that its Sebastian Winn-Dixie location would undergo a conversion to an ALDI store.
