The Treasure Coast Food Bank announced a significant donation of $235,000 from Publix Super Markets Charities. This contribution will bolster the food bank’s mobile market initiative, ensuring fresh produce, proteins, and other essentials reach those in the community without consistent access. Serving nearly 250,000 residents weekly in St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties, the food bank has seen a 34% surge in demand.
With the recent contribution, the food bank can enhance its capacity to cater to this growing need. Since 2010, Publix Charities has generously provided $2.2 million to the food bank.
Judith Cruz, the President and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank, expressed profound gratitude. “We are extremely grateful to receive this generous donation from Publix Charities, which will provide thousands of pounds of fresh food to our neighbors in need,” she remarked. “Our mobile distribution programs have been integral in our mission to end hunger by providing nutritious, fresh products in areas with low and inconsistent access. We’re excited to continue growing and expanding our programs.”
Todd Jones, Publix CEO, commented on their philanthropic drive, saying, “Helping provide food to our neighbors in need is at the heart of our philanthropic efforts at Publix,” he added, “We’re thankful to Publix Super Markets Charities for their continued support of hunger alleviation efforts in the areas we serve. Their support and our work with food banks throughout the Southeast provide nourishment and better the lives of families and individuals in our communities. We’re proud to do good, together.”
This recent donation to Treasure Coast Food Bank is just one in a series by Publix Super Markets Charities this year aimed at combating hunger. In 2023 alone, they’ve contributed an impressive $10 million to Feeding America-affiliated food banks and other charitable organizations.
