The Indian River County Supervisor of Elections is issuing a final reminder to residents: the deadline to register to vote or change your political party affiliation for the upcoming August 20 Primary Election is Monday, July 22.
It’s crucial for voters to meet this deadline as any registrations or changes made after this date will only be processed for future elections.
Why This Deadline Matters
Florida operates under a closed primary system, meaning that voters must be registered with either the Democratic Party or Republican Party to participate in their respective primary contests. However, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, can vote in nonpartisan races and on issues.
How to Register or Change Your Affiliation
You can easily register or change your party affiliation online by visiting RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov. Alternatively, you can submit a paper registration application in person at the Supervisor of Elections office located at 4375 43rd Avenue, Vero Beach, which is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Check Your Voter Registration Status
It’s advisable to regularly check your registration status. This can be done online at VoteIndianRiver.gov by selecting “Check My Voter Registration Status.” This service also allows voters to verify their address, party affiliation, polling location, and view maps and photos of their Election Day polling site.
Important Updates to Your Voter Information
Registered voters are encouraged to update their names, addresses, or other details well before Election Day to ensure a smooth voting process.
Changes can be made online, by phone at 772-226-4700, or by emailing Info@VoteIndianRiver.gov. Remember, if you update your address online or by phone, you must provide your date of birth and identification details, such as your Florida Driver’s License number or Social Security number.
Additional Voter Services
Those needing to update their name due to marriage or other legal reasons or change their party affiliation can also do so through a Florida Voter Registration Application submitted online or in person. Updates to your signature or other identifying marks must also be handled through the Supervisor of Elections office.
