Sebastian City Councilwoman Kelly Dixon has announced her candidacy for re-election. Dixon, who took office 21 months ago, succeeded former Mayor and Council member Jim Hill, who retired after over 20 years of service.
“We have made many positive administrative changes in the City, and I am pleased with the progress we have made. I set out with the goal to bring more focus on our youth and young families, work to maintain Sebastian’s charm as we grow, as well as enhance communication from the City to our citizens, and we have done that,” Dixon said.
Pointing to unfinished business, Dixon announced her official re-election campaign. “I would be honored to continue to serve on Council as we soar into Sebastian’s next 100 years,” she stated.
Dixon is currently a TV Production, Film & Photography teacher at Indian River Charter High School. She has been a Sebastian resident since 1997 and graduated from Sebastian River High School.
During her undergraduate studies at UCF, Dixon excelled academically, earning competitive internships and a spot in the LEAD Scholars program. She held leadership positions in Kappa Kappa Gamma, a sorority known for its focus on leadership development.
After graduating as Salutatorian of her class, she went on to work as a TV News Reporter, interviewing government officials, astronauts, celebrities, and environmentalists.
Dixon is married with two children and has volunteered extensively in the community, including serving on the Treasure Coast Elementary PTA board.
