While gas prices fell 7 cents per gallon this past week, we’ll see that short-lived in Sebastian, Florida. The state gas tax holiday offering a 25-cent discount will expire on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
“While Halloween is traditionally a time for filling bags with candy, drivers may also want to fill their gas tank to take advantage of current prices at the pump,” Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman, said in a statement.
“Pump prices will likely rise 25 cents overnight when the state gas tax expires on Tuesday morning,” Jenkins added.
Sebastian gas prices declined 22 cents within a couple of days after the state sales tax holiday was implemented on October 1, 2022. Unfortunately for drivers, that discount will end.
After the discount was implemented, OPEC announced plans to cut its oil production rate, which sparked a 17% oil price hike, raising the cost of producing gasoline. Jenkins said the move caused gas prices in Florida to rise again, despite the state’s gas tax holiday.
