On Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, Sebastian voters re-elected Ed Dodd and Kelly Dixon for Sebastian City Council.
There were two City Council seats open, with three candidates running. This year’s candidates were Kelly Dixon, Ed Dodd, and Damien H. Gilliams.
Dixon received 10,053 vote, (48%) and Dodd 9,273 votes (45%) while Gilliams took 1,518 votes(7%), according to official results from the Supervisor of Elections Office.
Dodd, the current Mayor, has been a City of Sebastian resident for 24 years. He has served as chair on the Code Enforcement Board for two years, the Planning & Zoning Board for six years, the Charter Review Committee, and the City Council for eight years. He also has served as Mayor on three different occasions.
Dixon, the current Vice Mayor, moved to Sebastian in 1997 and attended Sebastian River High School, where she was in the top 10% of her class in 2001. She has a degree in Broadcast Journalism and completed her Master’s Degree. She has been a TV news reporter and worked as a TV Production Teacher. She has served on the Sebastian City Council for two years.
Damien H. Gilliams was recalled by Sebastian citizens in 2020 after his arrests for perjury and Sunshine Law violations while he served as a councilman. He was also convicted of multiple counts of violating the Sunshine Law by a jury and served time in jail for his crimes. Despite his criminal past from when he was a councilman, he continues to run for City Council.
