At a recent meeting, the Indian River County Commission unanimously appointed Commissioner Susan Adams as the new Chairperson. Under Adams’ new leadership, the Commission announced a significant financial benefit for the community. A collective effort by the county’s five constitutional officers resulted in a substantial $4.7 million refund to the taxpayers, derived from operational savings and fee collections. All monies are returned to the State of Florida.
Indian River County Property Appraiser Wesley Davis emphasized the importance of financial relief for the community, acknowledging the widespread economic pressures, such as the rising cost of essentials. He expressed pride in his team’s efficiency and fiscal responsibility, which contributed to the positive financial news for the taxpayers.
“Taxpayers have been hit from all sides,” said Indian River County Property Appraiser Wesley Davis. “Like everybody else, I feel the pain of $9 bacon. I feel like it is my duty to save taxpayers money any way I can. I am proud that my team was able to do their jobs, accurately, on time and under budget so we could give taxpayers a little bit of good news for a change.”
Davis himself returned a record $535,000 from the Property Appraiser’s office. Joining this commendable effort was Clerk of Courts Ryan Butler contributing $283,000, Supervisor of Elections Leslie Swan with $12,000, and Tax Collector Carole Jean Jordan, who returned a notable $2.5 million.
Indian River Sheriff Eric Flowers returned $1.3 million, however, he’s asking for most of it back.
Jordan highlighted the collective achievement, attributing the substantial refund to conservative policies and a dedication to service, particularly in a challenging year, underscoring the effectiveness of their governance in delivering excellent service while also managing to return over $4.5 million to the taxpayers.
“I am very proud that my fellow Constitutional Officers and me were able to provide excellent service in a challenging year and still return over four and a half million dollars to Taxpayers. Conservative policies and a commitment to service works,” said Jordan.
