In a significant move to alleviate the stress of tax season for millions, the United Way of Indian River County (UWIRC) has unveiled its latest initiative: free tax filing services through MyFreeTaxes. More than 1.3 Million MyFreeTaxes Filers Have Used MyFreeTaxes since 2009.
This innovative online platform, accessible via MyFreeTaxes.com, offers a seamless and cost-free solution for taxpayers to file their federal and state returns quickly and accurately.
Amid the often daunting tax filing task, UWIRC’s introduction of MyFreeTaxes is a beacon of relief. “Taxes can be a source of confusion and stress for Americans,” said Meredith Egan, CEO of United Way of Indian River County.
“Many of us are intimidated by the complexities of taxes and afraid to make a mistake that will cost money. With MyFreeTaxes, you can take advantage of all the tax credits and deductions for which you qualify,” Egan added, highlighting the platform’s aim to simplify the tax filing process.
Notably, MyFreeTaxes is not only accessible but also inclusive, offering services in both English and Spanish. The platform boasts a user-friendly interface that allows most filers to complete their taxes in under an hour – a significant saving compared to the $200 fee commonly charged by paid tax preparers.
To further support taxpayers, MyFreeTaxes offers direct access to IRS-certified specialists via a dedicated helpline (866-698-9435) available daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, from February 6th to October 31st.
MyFreeTaxes extends its offerings beyond individual tax filing, providing specialized tax guides for small business owners, gig economy workers, and home-based childcare center owners. A forthcoming guide will offer crucial assistance to filers affected by federally declared disasters, ensuring comprehensive support for a wide array of tax situations.
The services provided through MyFreeTaxes cover a broad spectrum of tax situations for free:
- W-2 income
- Schedule C Self-Employment
- Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV student
- Education expenses, credits, or student loan interest
- Unemployment income
- Claiming the standard deduction
- Earned Income Tax Credit
- Child tax credits
- Free access to a student debt management tool that will help employees easily lower payments or find loan forgiveness.
