The Woody’s Bar-B-Q chain’s corporate office recently announced that the Sebastian location clinched two awards for 2024. They are for Top Sales and Largest Increase in Year-over-Year Sales.
For Kathy and Roger Birt, this marks their eighth time snagging the Top Sales title in the 11 years since they took full ownership of the Indian River County eatery. The numbers tell the story: the Sebastian outpost wrapped up 2024 with a 3.5% sales boost over 2023—a feat that’s all the more impressive in today’s tricky economic climate.
But for the Birts, it’s not just about the bottom line—it’s about the people they serve, from loyal regulars to the staff who keep the pit fires burning.
“From their community outreach to the dining experience they’ve fostered in their restaurant, Kathy and Roger have built a dedicated team and an extraordinarily loyal fanbase,” said Yolanda Mills-Mawman, co-founder and president of Woody’s Bar-B-Q.
She praised the couple’s hands-on approach, noting their regular investments in the restaurant to keep it a top-notch spot for BBQ lovers.
“It all begins with the couple at the heart of their operation,” Mills-Mawman added. “They’re savvy restaurateurs with a big heart for their community.”
That heart shines through in the Birts’ commitment to giving back. Their restaurant is a hub of support for local causes, from the Sebastian Exchange Club to the Sebastian River High School Athletic Program and other school initiatives.
They also roll out the red carpet for local heroes, offering special discounts to first responders, law enforcement, hospital workers, and active military members.
“Our goal is to provide a family-style restaurant where everyone feels welcome,” said Roger Birt. “We strive to be affordable in these challenging economic times and are continuously looking at every angle to cut costs while offering savings to our customers.”
Located at 13600 US Highway 1, Suite 18, Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Sebastian is more than just a place to grab a plate of slow-smoked brisket—it’s a community cornerstone. The restaurant boasts a full bar, a takeout window, and a private dining room for buffet events, all wrapped in a cozy, hometown vibe. They also provide catering.
The weekly lineup of specials keeps the crowds coming back: Kids Eat Free Mondays, All You Can Eat Pork and Ribs on Mondays and Tuesdays, Prime Rib Nights on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a finger-licking 99¢ wings deal on Saturdays. Tuesday Night Trivia, a fan favorite since 2016, adds a dash of fun to the mix.
“I never lose the aspect of walking into our restaurant as a patron,” said Kathy Birt. “I expect the same service and food quality that I want our customers to receive. We are so blessed and thankful for the support of our customers, so giving back to our community is extremely important to us.”
For Woody’s Bar-B-Q, a chain that’s been dishing out comfort food since 1980, the Sebastian restaurant is an outstanding representation of the brand. Co-founders Woody Mills and Yolanda Mills-Mawman, who launched the brand in Jacksonville 45 years ago, couldn’t be prouder.
The Indian River County restaurant is open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. To follow them on Facebook, locals are encouraged to visit https://www.facebook.com/woodysbarbqsebastian.
