With the 100th anniversary of the City of Sebastian approaching, officials want to establish a Centennial Task Force to plan the celebration.
Officials will propose the Centennial Task Force in an upcoming City Council meeting on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, starting at 6:00 p.m.
“A resolution on the City of Sebastian, Indian River County, Florida, establishing a City of Sebastian Centennial Task Force; providing for responsibilities; providing for dissolution; providing for conflicts; providing for scrivener’s errors; and providing for an effective date,” the upcoming agenda reads.
Officially, Sebastian was founded in 1882 and named St. Sebastian. Later, “St.” was removed from the town’s name but not from the river. Sebastian was incorporated as a City on Dec. 8, 1924.
The City Council is expected to discuss and vote on the resolution. If passed, every event in the City may have a Centennial Celebration backdrop for the entire year.
Centennial Task Force will be a committee that will include Sebastian citizens to help plan the celebration.
