A new landmark is rising in Grant-Valkaria to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. On August 3rd, the Grant-Valkaria Community Association (GVCA) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Veterans’ Memorial Park, a 4,900-square-foot space dedicated to recognizing veterans’ sacrifices.
A Community Effort for a Noble Cause
The ceremony brought together the community in a spirit of patriotism. Dana Jackson, the GVCA’s Master of Ceremonies, led the event alongside local veterans, the Grant-Valkaria Town Council, representatives from The Thomas IV American Legion Post 117, and Scouting America Troop 117.
A Place of Remembrance and Reflection
The park will be located on the west side of Grant-Valkaria Town Hall (1449 Valkaria Road) under a majestic heritage oak tree named “Freedom.” The design, currently in the rendering stage, promises a space for quiet reflection and appreciation. Plans include:
- Statues honoring veterans
- Display of US and remembrance flags
- Service branch emblems
- Commemorative, laser-engraved bricks
- Benches for peaceful contemplation
- An educational area with picnic tables
