VERO BEACH – A large mulch pile caught fire today at the Indian River County Landfill off 74th Avenue SW in Vero Beach.

IRC Firefighters have responded and controlled the blaze.

Be aware that the mulch is expected to produce smoke in our area over the next 24-hours.

There is no threat to structures or people.

There is currently a burn ban in Indian River County due to dry conditions.

Officials in Vero Beach say the county-wide burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning that includes bonfires, all campfires, and the burning of vegetative (yard) debris.

“All residents are advised to report any outside burning to 9-1-1,” Brian Burkeen, Assistant Chief of Indian River County Fire Rescue, said in a statement.
