After an overwhelming response from Sebastian citizens asking us to endorse candidates for this year’s City Council election, we have decided to go forward with endorsing.
In 2019, we did something different. We decided not to endorse candidates, and we’ve been kicking ourselves ever since. In that year, Damien Gilliams, Pamela Parris, and Charles Mauti were all elected.
In 2020, when the three were removed from public office from the Sebastian Recall election, we again did not endorse any candidates because it was a recall election.
I think that proves our honesty, character, and transparency. For several years, we have been providing news to Sebastian. I feel it’s also our civic duty to publish information about all candidates and make recommendations.
In case you want more information about all candidates, to decide for yourself, we will also provide the facts about each one taken from our recent forum.
Sebastian Daily started candidate forums to help us endorse people. We have always been transparent about the forums and our candidate recommendations in the past.
We learned quite a bit from our last forum and will make an educational and honest decision on candidate recommendations.
Several members of the Taxpayers Association of IRC, who we teamed up with this year to have one forum instead of two, have urged us to endorse.
Last week, at the Community Night Out event, citizens also urged us to endorse candidates.
We feel it’s the right thing to do. We don’t want the past to repeat itself as we witnessed in 2019 and 2020.
So, we will publish our endorsements this coming week.
