SEBASTIAN – An accidental Sebastian house fire woke up residents early Saturday morning that killed one man.
Sebastian Police and Indian River Fire Rescue responded to home at around 2:30 a.m. on 123 La Playa Lane with two vehicles parked in the driveway.
“Officers on the scene were told the home is normally occupied by a family of two adults and four children, however, a quick investigation revealed the family was out of town,” Sebastian police spokesman Cmdr. John Blackledge said.
Unfortunately, later information revealed the home was being occupied by a male subject whose vehicle was still at the house.
As IRC firefighters suppressed the fire, a deceased person was located at the scene. The home is a total loss.
The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin and positive identity.
The incident is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Indian River Fire Rescue and Sebastian Police Department are working in cooperation with the State Fire Marshal’s Investigator.
