Treasure Coast Swimming’s Mitchell Ledford, a Sebastian River High School Student, had a great meet at the Wave 1 Olympic trials in Omaha June 5-7.
Ledford became one of the top-10 15-16 100 butterfly performers of all time with his winning performance at the 2021 US Olympic Trials.
After missing the A-final by only .06, Ledford qualified as the first seed for the B-final finals. At the finals, he touched 6th at the first 50 and then charged home, coming back the final 50 meters to win and touch in a time of 53.58.
Ledford’s swim marks a new personal best. He is now the 10th-fastest performer in 15-16 age group history in the 100 butterfly. In addition, with this time, he is currently the fastest 16-year-old in the world.
No rest for this swimmer. He is back in the pool at the north county aquatic center in Sebastian, training with his team, and will compete in the USA Swimming nationals on August 3-7 in Greensboro, NC.
