Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, commonly known as BJJ, is a martial art and combat sport that originated in Brazil. It focuses on ground fighting and grappling techniques, making it an effective self-defense system and a popular choice for mixed martial arts competitions. It emphasizes leverage, technique, and strategy, allowing smaller individuals to overcome larger opponents through efficient use of body positioning and submissions.
With its roots in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, BJJ evolved and gained prominence thanks to the Gracie family’s efforts in Brazil. Today, it is practiced worldwide and has become a fundamental discipline for those seeking physical fitness, mental discipline, and practical self-defense skills. BJJ’s emphasis on respect, perseverance, and continuous improvement makes it a way of life for many practitioners.
In September, a group from the school will travel to Las Vegas for the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Worlds by the IBJJF, in which athletes worldwide compete.
