Are you a senior citizen seeking information on free transportation, financial assistance, or medical guidance? The Senior Resource Association is known for its Meals on Wheels program.
Emily Snow, a representative of the Senior Resource Association, will provide detailed information about accessing these resources during her presentation on January 19th at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sebastian. This event, which starts at 1 p.m., is hosted by the Cancer Support Group of Indian River County and is located near the North Indian River County Library.
In addition, there are other services that extend behind by other nonprofits that include the the Mental Health Collaborative, the Women’s Refuge of Vero Beach, the Dept. of Elder Affairs and the daily Sunshine Calls program, to name just a few. These nonprofits offer connections to senior housing programs, referrals to the Senior Legal Helpline, and free Community Coach bus rides.
Their contributions include:
- Organizing senior resource fairs.
- Presenting programs like “Growing Old Fearlessly.”
- Providing free tax preparation services across the county.
Snow’s presentation will cover how seniors or their caregivers can benefit from these services or volunteer for the association’s senior-focused programs.
The Indian River County Cancer Support group meets monthly at Christ the King and aims to create a supportive environment for those affected by cancer.
“The purpose of this support group is to share with each other helpful information about living with cancer–whether you are newly diagnosed, a family member or friend or caregiver,” said Gayle Seifert, facilitator. “We offer a safe environment where people affected by cancer are able to share feelings, experiences, tips, and advice that is helpful to each other. Our guest speakers, who are invited every other month, share vital information for the group to help in their cancer journey.”
According to facilitator Gayle Seifert, the group offers a platform to share experiences, tips, and advice. Guest speakers are invited bi-monthly to provide essential information for those on their cancer journey.
