A 17-year-old Sebastian River High School student was arrested on charges of 2nd Degree Attempted Murder in a shooting in Fellsmere that left one man hospitalized, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
The juvenile was identified as Edgar Luis Magdaleno of Fellsmere after the victim provided a name and identified him in a photo lineup, investigators said.
The Fellsmere shooting occurred on March 22, 2021, at the Sonrise Villa’s Apartment. The victim was in a medically induced coma at Holmes Regional Medical Center for multiple days following the shooting.
However, upon coming out of the coma, the victim told detectives he was outside of his apartment building and was approached by two males. One of them asked him a question in Spanish, and upon answering, the second subject punched him in the head, the affidavit said.
After the victim was struck in the head, he ran from them but tripped, and that’s when Magdaleno allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a shot that struck him in the abdomen. When asked if the suspect had a rifle or handgun, the victim believed the weapon was a handgun.
Detectives arrested Magdaleno last Friday while he was attending class at the Sebastian River High School and charged him with one count of attempted murder.
