Charles Mauti, who was removed from public office amid the Sebastian recall, was sentenced Wednesday for his part in an illegal meeting on April 22, 2020.
The former Vice Mayor had to pay $1,568 in fines and court costs, and he has to attend and complete Sunshine Law Training within six months.
“It was my mistake to convene the meeting on April 22, 2020, although I thought it was the right thing to do at that time. I am not an experienced nor a professional politician. My error was a novice, political mistake, one which I have learned from and will never repeat,” Mauti said in June 2020.
Mauti cooperated with the State Attorney’s Office in the criminal trial of former Sebastian City Council members Damien Gilliams and Pamela Parris.
On May 27, 2021, Gilliams and Parris were convicted of violating Sunshine Laws and perjury when lying to investigators. Mauti had testified as a witness for the prosecution in the criminal case.
Gilliams and Parris will be sentenced on June 21, 2021.
