On Monday evening, a 26-year-old Arizona man was arrested following reports of reckless driving through residential areas in Sebastian, Florida.
At approximately 6:37 p.m., the Sebastian Police Department received a call reporting a gold Ford F-150 pickup truck driving recklessly along the 600 block of Caravan Terrace. Witnesses described the vehicle as leaving skid marks in the roadway.
As police were on their way, they were flagged down by a witness at the intersection of Laconia Street and Periwinkle Drive, who revealed that the same truck had struck a stop sign as it was noticeably damaged and lying on the ground. The witnesses told police that the driver was male, approximately 30 years old, with brown hair.
Moments later, another officer spotted the suspect vehicle barreling down Barber Street, still exhibiting dangerous driving behavior, according to police. A traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of Barber Street and Rolling Hill Drive, and the driver was arrested without further incident. The truck bore front-end damage consistent with the reported hit-and-run.
The driver, identified as Daniel Patrick Taylor, was found to display signs of impairment upon interaction with law enforcement. Police said they observed Taylor’s eyes as glassy, his speech slurred, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage whenever he spoke.
Further investigation revealed the extent of the damage caused by Taylor’s reckless actions. The stop sign incurred approximately $250 in damages, according to officers at the scene—Taylor’s blood alcohol concentration was .159, nearly twice the legal limit, according to police.
Taylor was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage and DUI. He was transported to the Indian River County Jail, where his bond was set at $1,500.
