On Monday, April 26, 2021, a Sebastian police officer was arrested for violating an injunction with his ex-girlfriend.
The injunction stated that Thomas Quinn shall not directly or indirectly contact his ex-girlfriend in person, by mail, e-mail, fax, telephone, through another person, or in any other manner, including social media.
On March 6, 2021, after receiving a copy of the injunction on March 5, 2021, Quinn contacted his ex-girlfriend on a phone app called KIK.
Two days later, on March 8, 2021, Quinn’s ex-girlfriend contacted the Vero Beach Police Department to file a report. She told the police that Quinn contacted her on social media.
“She explained that in February, Quinn downloaded the ‘KIK’ app to her cell phone,” the warrant said. She also told the police that she never knew what KIK was until Quinn downloaded it to her phone before the injunction.
The Sebastian Police Department has been very transparent about the case, but reminded us that it’s being handled by the FDLE and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office The police department will soon begin a separate internal inquiry.
“Officer Quinn was placed on administrative leave on March 5th, 2021, based on allegations of misconduct. For transparency reasons, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) was contacted to conduct the investigation surrounding the allegations. On April 26th he was arrested by the Indian River County Sherriff’s Office for a charge that stemmed from that investigation. Upon completion of FDLE’s investigation, our agency will conduct a separate internal inquiry into all of the accusations. For any additional information about his arrest, please contact the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office,” Chief Dan Acosta told Sebastian Daily.
The case is still under investigation by the FDLE.
