The Sebastian Police Department has initiated an investigation into a series of car burglaries in the Sebastian River Landing area, as reported on Monday.
Captain Timothy Wood of the Sebastian Police Department informed Sebastian Daily that the suspected burglars are likely young individuals or people from outside the local area. They seem to target unlocked vehicles for their ease of access.
Residents of this community recently found their cars burglarized. In the Ashbury gated community, a similar situation occurred last month, where 13 vehicles were burglarized and one stolen. All the cars involved had been left unlocked. The FLOCK surveillance system, which includes license plate readers on Interstate 95 and at various intersections, has been instrumental in tracking stolen vehicles.
The Sebastian Police Department and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office have previously advised residents to secure their vehicles following numerous break-ins. Often, these burglaries involve thieves looking for car keys or key fobs.
Residents are reminded to take precautions such as locking doors, closing all windows, removing any visible items from their cars, parking in secure and well-lit areas, and taking their keys inside.
The Sebastian Police Department urges anyone with information about these incidents to contact them at 772-589-5233.
