A teenager, aged 19, informed the police that he had consumed alcohol at the No Name Sports Bar in Sebastian before a car mishap occurred in its parking lot, the affidavit said. He faced charges of Grand Theft Auto and driving without a valid license.
The police arrived at the bar on Monday around 11:25 p.m. following reports of the car accident. The owner of a Volvo claimed he was at the bar with co-workers when Raul Sayago Ruiz, 19, took his keys from the car’s center console and drove it without permission.
While driving the Volvo, Ruiz collided with the front of a Nissan, resulting in damage to both its bumper and the Volvo’s left side.
The affidavit states that Ruiz confessed to the police about having multiple drinks at the bar alongside his co-workers.
Other charges may be pending in this case.
Ruiz was taken into custody and was held at the Indian River County Jail with a bond set at $5,500.
