Authorities detained two women last Thursday for suspected credit card fraud following their purported extravagant spending.
Kristina Anne Swain from Sebastian and Summer Dawn Day from Vero Beach face charges for fraudulently using a credit card to acquire money, goods, and services at multiple retail locations, including the Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens.
Sebastian Police Department detectives reported that these transactions took place on December 2, 2023, and included the following expenditures:
- Walgreens in Sebastian: $247.80
- Bath and Body Works at Palm Beach Gardens Mall: $60.83
- Bath and Body Works at Palm Beach Gardens Mall: $141.35
- Champs Sports at Palm Beach Gardens Mall: $704.35
- Pac Sun at Palm Beach Gardens Mall: $255.73
- Victoria’s Secret at Palm Beach Gardens Mall: (Card declined)
- BP Gas Station in Palm Beach Gardens: $91.64
Video evidence from the stores and the parking lot revealed the suspects and the vehicle used. Flock camera systems, which are license plate readers, assisted detectives in piecing together a timeline and identifying Kristina Anne Swain as the car’s owner.
Further investigation led to Summer Day’s Facebook account, where she posted videos of the shopping spree with Kristina Swain at Palm Beach Gardens Mall.
Upon interviewing Swain, she admitted to finding the credit card in a wallet at the Pelican Isles Apartments parking lot with a male acquaintance. She told detectives it belonged to a woman due to the cards it contained. Swain identified the man, seen in Walgreens surveillance footage, as her friend, who encouraged her to “get what you need” using the card. The male friend remained in the car while Swain went into the store and used the card. Following Walgreens, she continued shopping at Palm Beach Gardens Mall with Day and the male friend.
Swain told police she allegedly had a “drug bender” following her husband’s infidelity, during which she met Day and the man.
Swain and Day were detained and taken to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Swain was released on a $10,000 bond, while the judge revoked Day’s pre-existing bond from a separate felony theft case.
