Michael Abt Jr. Have a Heart Foundation

Michael Abt Jr. was a healthy, active child with no signs or symptoms. Yet, he collapsed and tragically lost his life to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) at the age of 12 while participating in physical education (PE) class at school. Sadly, this is not uncommon; SCA is the leading cause of death on school campuses.

The mission of this foundation is to eliminate these preventable sudden cardiac deaths in youth by ensuring that all schools have public access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and that staff and students are trained in CPR and ready to use AEDs in case of cardiac emergency.

A primary prevention strategy is to screen children’s hearts with a simple and affordable electrocardiogram (ECG). Statistics show that one youth dies from SCA every three days, and many of these deaths are due to undetected heart conditions that can often be identified with a simple ECG. Screening your child could save their life!
