Our Lady of Atocha
Back in 1622, a famous Spanish treasure ship called Our Lady of Atocha was sailing with other ships when a hurricane smashed it off the Florida Keys. It carried copper, silver, gold, tobacco, gems, and even a blue dye called indigo, which it picked up from Spanish ports like Cartagena, Porto Bello, and Havana. The ship was on its way to Spain, but the storm had other plans and sank it.
Fast forward to July 20, 1985: Treasure Hunter Mel Fisher found most of the wreck. He had to battle it out in court with the State of Florida, but ultimately, he won and got to keep all the treasure himself.
