COVID-19 Vaccine

Update: All Department of Health COVID-19 vaccines for Brevard and Indian River County have been filled. No additional appointments are available at this time. Once they have additional vaccines, we will publish another article to update the public.

The Florida Department of Health Brevard is actively planning to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to people over 65-years-old and healthcare workers who provide direct patient care but are not associated with a hospital system.

DOH Brevard will offer free, appointment-only COVID-19 vaccinations of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine beginning on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Appointments are available to:

This is a federal vaccine, so anyone can go to any county or state to receive the vaccine. So, Indian River County residents can go to Brevard County.

The FDOH recommends that people coming out of state get the vaccine in their home state if they will not be staying in Florida or Brevard County to receive the second dose 28 days later. As there are two vaccine manufacturers, you cannot take the vaccine from Pfizer and then take the second dose from Moderna.

Make an Appointment:

Starting Tuesday, December 29, 2020, you can call the Florida Department of Health Brevard appointment line at 321-454-7141, visit, or send an email to CHD05.webmaster@flhealth.gov with your name, a phone number, and how you qualify (either 65+ or a qualified health care worker), to make an appointment for the drive-through vaccination clinic at 2555 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera.

Appointments will be scheduled beginning Monday, January 4, 2021. Vaccinations will be administered Monday through Friday, between 1:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., until further notice. A driver’s license or healthcare badge is required at the time of your appointment.

Review COVID Vaccine Fact Sheet & Screening Questions

Please review the COVID Vaccine Fact Sheet and screening questions on the COVID-19 Vaccine Screening and Consent Form before your appointment. If you answer ‘yes’ to any screening questions, you will need to bring a doctor’s note to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Print and complete the COVID-19 Vaccine Screening and Consent Form and bring it to the appointment for more efficient service.

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccination series is two doses, given one month apart. If you receive one dose of the Moderna vaccine, you should receive a second dose of the same vaccine one month later to complete the vaccination series. After vaccination, you will be asked to park nearby for 15 minutes to be monitored for adverse reactions. Please visit the “Moderna Facts and Privacy” (LINK) for additional information. This way, you will know what to expect during and after the vaccination.

More information can be found at the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine website.

For the COVID-19 Vaccine consent form and the Moderna Facts and Privacy form visit FDOH Brevard’s COVID-19 Testing Information at https://brevard.floridahealth.gov/events/2021/01/covid19-vaccination.html

Everyone, including those who have received both doses of vaccine, should continue to follow CDC recommendations on wearing face coverings, social distancing, and practicing good hand hygiene.

Indian River County FDOH Vaccines

On Tuesday evening, December 29, 2020 an alert was sent out through Alert Indian River, Indian River County’s alerting system often used for hurricane updates. It offered an appointment-only vaccination clinic for those aged 65 or older on Saturday, January 2, 2021, in Indian River County.

The clinic was booked in less than an hour. At this time, they have received a limited amount of COVID-19 vaccine. As more doses become available, they will continue to work with our community partners in accordance with these priorities as set by Governor DeSantis.

They encourage seniors and all residents and visitors in Indian River County to opt into Alert Indian River to receive announcements for expansion of vaccination criteria and notifications for additional vaccination clinics and appointments at the provided link.

Updates will also be shared on the County’s social media and website.
