School District of Indian River County voted to maintain the current face-covering requirement, as outlined in the SDIRC Safe at School 2020 Reopening Plan, after 15 hours of discussion over 2 days.
“We have made some decisions and some significant improvements regarding the pathway we will take as it relates to mask moving forward,” said superintendent for the Indian River County School District Dr. David Moore.
Face covering will continue to be required when social distancing is not possible. A face covering free space will be designated in all classrooms whenever possible.
The District will be creating a Right & Responsibilities Summary related to face covering that will be posted at all Indian River County school district campuses beginning Monday, October 19, 2020.
“We’re going to create what we call a mask bill of rights. We want every student to know what the approved plan is. When mask should be worn, when it is ok to not have a mask on, in which environments,” Dr. Moore added.
