The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County is rolling out an exciting new Speaker Series, promising to bring a wealth of knowledge and fresh perspectives to local residents. The initiative will showcase experts from across the country, shining a spotlight on the latest developments in neurological disorders, cutting-edge research, and breakthroughs in healthcare tied to dementia and movement disorders.
The series kicks off this Tuesday, February 25, at 2:00 p.m., at the North County Library in Sebastian, located at 1001 Sebastian Boulevard. Barbara Fradkin, a social worker and case manager with the Brevard Parkinson’s Alliance, will explore the question, “Is there a silver lining with Parkinson’s Disease?” She aims to offer education and encouragement for those touched by the condition.
More events are slated for April 21 and June 23, both set to take place in Vero Beach, though exact details on those venues are still to come. Peggy Cunningham, the association’s executive director, said the lineup is designed with care.
“We have purposely scheduled our speakers to not only cover different topics of interest to those with movement or memory disorders, but to appear at different locations throughout the county, as well as different times of the day, in an effort to offer something for everyone, based on their schedules and needs,” said Cunningham.
The best part? It’s all free. The association is asking folks to register ahead of time by calling their office at 772-563-0505, just to keep things organized.
Since its founding in 1982, the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association has been a lifeline for Indian River County families grappling with memory and movement disorders. They offer dozens of programs and services—from support groups to educational workshops—all at no cost.
