A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami rescue helicopter crew airlifted an 81-year-old man from a recreational boat 15 miles east of Sebastian Inlet on Thursday.
The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted the man and transported him to Indian River Medical Center for emergency medical care. No further information about the man is available.
Coast Guard Sector Miami received a distress call at approximately 10:30 a.m. from a 24-foot recreational vessel reporting a passenger suffering from severe chest pain.
“Effective communication between the boat captain and the Coast Guard was crucial to the successful rescue,” said Lt. Cmdr. James Fennessey. “Our crew quickly diverted from training to provide critical medical care to the patient.
