I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I don’t have a video this week due to the holidays. However, this week’s fishing report is about flounder! You’ll just need some patience.
North Side (Jetty Closed)
- Hit or Miss: Fishing has been inconsistent, with limited areas to explore.
- Best Times: Fish the incoming tide along the rocks and mangrove shorelines west of the tide pool. Wading along the shoreline during the outgoing tide can also be productive.
- Flounder: Excellent catches reported by boaters drifting and anchoring. Live finger mullet has been the top bait.
- Pompano: Running the shoreline, caught on sandfleas and goofy jigs.
- Black Drum: Also present in this area.
South Jetty
- When conditions allow, anglers are catching black drum, sheepshead, and pompano. Effective baits include live and dead shrimp, sandfleas, and goofy jigs (especially in cleaner water).
- Outgoing tide is generally more productive.
Shoreline
- Black drum and sheepshead are being caught on live and dead shrimp and sandfleas during the incoming tide.
- Excellent flounder fishing throughout the shoreline, with fish ranging from 3-4 pounds, and some even reaching 5-6 pounds.
- Live finger mullet and mud minnows have been the top baits.
T-Dock
- Spanish mackerel are being caught on small jigs.
- Pompano are also biting on goofy jigs fished towards the channel.
- Incoming tide has been more productive for these species.
- Flounder are possible here as well, especially when fishing live finger mullet close to the rocks and dock pilings.
General Tips
- Flounder Fishing: Don’t cast too far! Many flounder will be holding close to the shoreline.
- Explore: Put in the time and explore different areas to find the fish.
