It’s time to reel in the fishing details in Sebastian, Florida. While the weather provided us with warm temperatures, the fishing at the Sebastian Inlet was unpredictable.
Wayne “Snookman” Landry shared that the previous week saw intermittent success for those pursuing snook, signaling a hit-or-miss scenario. The inlet was teeming with large bluefish, jacks, Spanish mackerel, and bull and hammerhead sharks.
“The snook really don’t want to have anything to do with them. Most of you that do fish snook know that they are very skittish and spooky when things are threatening to them, and they will not want to bite,” Landry explained.
Landry also said that the the water temperature has warmed up to a comfortable 73°F, encouraging signs of life with decent schools of finger mullet around the north jetty and a good showing of majorras. This hints at a promising snook season.
The arrival of finger mullet at the North Jetty signals the potential for dynamic spring action. Snook have shown a preference for the outgoing tide, with several catches reported, including oversized and slot-sized fish. Redfish and sheepshead are also in the mix, with live shrimp, cut shrimp, and fiddler crabs proving effective.
Spanish mackerel have been abundant at the North Jetty, falling for small white jigs and lures. Meanwhile, the return of the “monster” bluefish offers a thrilling challenge for those wielding cut bait and large silver spoons, according to Landry.
Slightly hindered by murkier waters, the South Jetty still produced slot snook and redfish, especially on live baits. The “monster” bluefish made their presence felt, with anglers reaching their limits on these formidable adversaries.
Although slower, the T-Dock area is showing signs of life. Warmer and clearer waters are attracting “monster” blues and Spanish mackerel. Snook fishing is on the rise here.
The Surf Areas on shores at the Sebastian Inlet State Park present opportunities for pompano, whiting, and black drum, with clean water being the key to success. Anglers say silver spoons and jigs entice Spanish mackerel and bluefish for those casting lines here.
Fishing Weather
The likelihood of rain on Monday increases to 60 percent. Temperatures begin to dip on Tuesday, peaking at 67 degrees for the high. Additionally, expect stronger winds, reaching 25 to 30 mph gusts, making fishing conditions unfavorable for these two days.
However, a shift in the weather on Wednesday brings a rise in temperatures, starting at 73 degrees and climbing to 78 by Thursday, ahead of returning rains on Friday.
For anglers, Wednesday and Thursday are the prime fishing days during the week, when the winds are calmer, and the temperatures begin to warm up again.
