Fishing in Sebastian has been consistently good. A friendly reminder: Snook season officially closed today and will reopen on February 1, 2025.
Local angler Kirby Kitchener ventured out in his 22′ boat near the Sebastian Inlet. He reported a peaceful atmosphere at the North Jetty, which remains closed for storm-related repairs until July 2025. However, the South Jetty is currently open for fishing.
“It’s quite nice there now because the Jetty has been closed for repairs and there are no anglers throwing their 4oz sinkers my way and getting mad at us for being too close to the Jetty,” Kitchener told Sebastian Daily.
Kitchener, a realtor in Sebastian with Coldwell Banker, employed a GPS spot-lock trolling motor on his boat, eliminating the need for anchoring. He fished during the incoming tide in the calm ocean, using shrimp as bait.
“I was using large hand-select shrimp that you can pay extra for $7.00 a dozen at your local bait store,” he explained.
Kitchener cast his line from the boat near the North Jetty and hooked two snook, each measuring 33 inches. He released both after bringing them aboard for a quick photo.
“I also caught a bunch of large Jacks, who I call bait snatchers, which I released as well. I hooked a couple of Black Drum as well before I ran out of bait and had to call it a day. What a fun day at the Inlet,” Kitchener said.
