Fishing activity increased last week at Sebastian Inlet, marked by an abundance of finger mullets near the North and South Jetties. Conditions were more favorable than the previous week, enabling anglers to catch snook, redfish, jacks, bluefish, and Spanish mackerel.

Wayne Landry, nicknamed “Snookman” at the inlet, noted the remarkable density of mullet in his recent fishing update, suggesting that casting a net would almost guarantee a catch.
Kirby Kitchener
Kirby Kitchener, who is a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Paradise, was fishing at the inlet twice last week. Last Tuesday, he arrived and noticed all the finger mullets on both sides of the North Jetty.
Realtor Kirby Kitchener, affiliated with Coldwell Banker Paradise, reported successful fishing experiences at the inlet last week. On Tuesday, he observed numerous finger mullets at the North Jetty and caught various fish, including a 29″ snook.
“I was catching plenty of jacks, ladyfish, blues, and catfish when the guy next to me hauled in a 29″ snook using finger mullet,” Kitchener said.
He used a PENN 7000 with an 8′ rod, 30lb mono, a 4-oz pyramid sliding sinker, and a 40lb 20″ leader line. Kitchener prefers 4/5 oz pyramid sinkers for their stability in currents.
On Friday, Kitchener returned to the Sebastian Inlet at 7 a.m. during an incoming tide as it was getting ready to slack before going out, describing it as an ideal time for fishing. With abundant finger mullet, he caught several fish, including a small redfish, and witnessed the catch of a small snook and Spanish mackerel.
“There were lots of jacks and bluefish off both sides being caught. I managed to pull up this small redfish and only saw one small snook taken and released while I was there. There were some Spanish mackerel caught on small diamond jigs, but for the most part, it was blue and Jack City out there,” he said.
Fishing Weather Outlook
However, the weather in Sebastian may be less favorable this week due to two tropical disturbances near Florida. High winds and rain, along with additional weather advisories, are expected. Daytime temperatures will hover around 78-80 degrees, with overnight lows near 68 degrees. A flood watch and high surf advisory are also in place.
Boaters should exercise caution as seas may reach 7 to 9 feet, potentially rising to 9 to 11 feet with occasional heights up to 13 feet. The National Weather Service has issued a Small Craft Advisory for the week.
