Anglers say the fishing scene at Sebastian Inlet shows promising signs of improvement, while offshore charters are reeling in some good catches.
Despite a sluggish start last week at the inlet, recent days have witnessed some good activity. However, windy conditions at the Sebastian jetties have stirred choppy waves. The good news is water temperatures have climbed to 73 degrees.
Sebastian Inlet
Renowned angler Wayne “Snookman” Landry shared encouraging observations, noting the presence of several schools of finger mullet near the North Jetty—a promising indication for the days ahead.
Landry said there’s been varied success, with pompano making appearances on the North Jetty, using cut shrimp and sand fleas as bait. Spanish mackerel and bluefish have also made their presence known, lured by white jigs and gotchas. Additionally, redfish have been biting on live shrimp.
However, Landry cautioned that the snook bite is slow, with only a few catches reported using live shrimp during the incoming tide.
Similar conditions are occurring at the South Jetty, with catches including blues, jacks, black margates, and occasional pompano on the outgoing tide with cut shrimp emerging as the bait of choice.
“The incoming tide has been pretty silty from the rough surf, and the dirty water flowing out of the intercoastal that is mixing with the ocean water, keeping things kind of dirty. But if you can find some cleaner water, you just might find some snook that want to play,” Landry advised.
Offshore Fishing
Meanwhile, Captain Terry Wildey of Big Easy Fishing Charters reports excellent conditions offshore, with great catches and favorable weather forecasts for the weekend.
“Fishing has been great, and the weather has been awesome. It looks like they both are going to hold through the weekend,” Wildey told Sebastian Daily.
Wildey’s recent outings have yielded hauls of the lane and mangrove snapper, triggerfish, and king mackerel, captivating charter guests seeking offshore adventures.
Looking ahead, Sebastian Daily plans to share valuable fishing tips on its YouTube channel next week. We may even show the proper way to filet a fish. Stay tuned!
