MICCO – On Thursday at 12 p.m., we checked out Papa’s BBQ in Micco after several people told us about it.
Papa’s BBQ in Micco, located just north of Sebastian at 5675 Micco Road, is a small eatery with large portions of meat. You can smell the brisket before you enter this place, from the parking lot, literally.
The menu and prices are good, and they have daily specials.
We tried the “Pulled Pork Sammich” that comes with one side and a beverage. We ordered two of the sandwiches, one with baked beans and the other with coleslaw.
The first thing we noticed was the generous portion of pork, and it was tender. Probably the best-pulled pork sandwich I ever had.
The one thing we didn’t like was the bun they used for the sandwich. You have to eat this thing right away, or the bottom of the bread will get soggy and undesirable in minutes.
The other thing I noticed was the beans. There wasn’t anything special about them (see photo). To me, they were no different than canned baked beans from the store. However, this was a lunch special, so maybe they have other beans made for the other entrees.
The highlight of our lunch was the tender, and full of flavor pulled pork.
Papa’s Real Pit BBQ is the real deal. We saw other patrons eating ribs and other entrees. There were no complaints and they enjoyed every bite.
The money spent on this lunch was also worth it, despite the few things I didn’t like. This place is worth a visit.
Dubbed as “A Taste of Texas,” they also provide a catering service for parties, events, weddings, company pictures, and birthdays.
To get there from Sebastian or Vero Beach, drive north on U.S. Highway 1 to Micco Road and take a left, it is just over the railroad tracks on the left-hand side. For more info, call (772) 918-8634.
