It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of George Andrew (Andy) Westerfield.
Andy was born in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY, July 8, 1941 to parents Marion Christine (Harper) Westerfield and George William Westerfield of Smithtown, New York.
Andy graduated from Smithtown High School in June 1959. Following graduation, Andy enlisted in the Navy and served from 1959 to 1965, where he was stationed for most of his enlistment at the Naval Air Station Bermuda, where he worked as a line mechanic on submarine search planes. After his discharge from the Navy, Andy used his skills to work for Grumman Aerospace on Long Island and eventually in Maryland. Andy retired after more than thirty years of service in 1996 as the Northrop Grumman factory representative to the Navy at Patuxent Naval Air Station, Maryland.
Andy and his wife Kathryn soon retired to Sebastian, FL where Andy became an active member of the American Legion, Post 189. He served as Post commander from 2008-2010. Andy and Kathryn were members of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Sebastian.
George Andrew Westerfield was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion Westerfield, and his brother, Maj. Roy W. Westerfield (USAF). He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; brother Gary (Nadya Dimitrov); sister the Rev. Grayce Rowe (Carl); and children, Andrew (Sheila), Andrea Westerfield, Gina Locksley (Robin), Amy Barrett (Chet) and Dain Hughes (Chris).
