Leslie G. (Les) Ennis (March 24, 1939 – February 16, 2023) passed away in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents George Ennis and Louvia (Chappell) Smith, and by his sisters June Chamberlain and Jeannette Schloesser.
Born and raised in upstate New York, Les graduated from Phoenix High School and Oswego State Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal, and retired with the rank of Lt. Commander.
He went to work in union relations with General Electric in 1965, first in Syracuse, New York, and then in Fort Wayne, Indiana. There he earned his MBA from St. Francis College. Transferring to the Pittsfield, Massachusetts, plant in 1979, he worked in employee relations until his retirement in 1993.
Les married Diane L. Drake on September 3, 1960, and they had three children, Lauren (Dennis) Nichols of Fort Wayne, David (Kirsten) Ennis of Pittsburgh, and Daniel (Mindi) Ennis of Leominster, Massachusetts, all of whom survive. Diane passed away in 2002.
Les is also survived by four adult grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-granddaughters, as well as his brother, Kenneth (Ras) Ennis.
He spent many happy retirement years near his siblings in Sebastian, Florida, before relocating to Pittsburgh in 2019.
This summer, the family will hold a private service in Syracuse, New York.
