Margaret (Peggy) Joyce Sembler Yelvington, age 96, died on June 10, 2023. Peggy was born Sept 19, 1926 to Margaret (May) and Charlie Sembler in Sebastian, Florida, the 5th of 6 children and was the last living member of her immediate family.
After Peggy graduated from Vero Beach High School, she followed the example of her older sister, Libby, and traveled to New Orleans to enter Nursing School at Charity Hospital.
While there, she met Wilfred Quirk, a WWII veteran who was attending LSU in Baton Rouge. They married in December 1947 and moved to his hometown Lake Charles, LA, where she lived the rest of her life. Wilfred became a CPA and a partner in McElroy, Quirk and King, where Peggy was also a bookkeeper.
Wilfred died in 1974. Peggy continued at her job at the CPA firm. Later she renewed her friendship with an old boyfriend from Vero Beach High School, Richard Yelvington, who had gone on to play football for the New York Giants and then worked as a federal narcotics agent until he retired. They were married from 1993 until his death in 2013.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Joseph David Quirk, b.1956, d.2012.
Peggy is survived by a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn (John) Maisonet, and a grandson, Joseph David (Jacqueline) Quirk Jr. She has 2 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Peggy was blessed with treasured friends and was greatly loved by all the members of her large extended family. She was everyone’s “favorite aunt” because of her cheerful spirit, constant good humor, and warm, welcoming arms. She always made you feel that your presense was a special gift.
Peggy died peacefully in Lake Charles, Louisiana with her granddaughter Jessica and dear friend Guy Pierce by her side.
