Shirley Louise (McGonigal) Shaw, 87, of Clearfield and Sebastian, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in Mt. Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
Shirley was born on June 30, 1936, in Clearfield, PA, to Ross C. and Edna B. (Curry) McGonigal. She graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1954.
She married Robert Allen Shaw, who preceded her in death in 1989. Together they had six children, Cynthia J. Butler-Augenbaugh and her husband, Richard, of Clearfield, PA; Cathy Ann Shaw of Louisville, KY; David A. Shaw and his wife, Tammy of Allport, PA; R. Scott Shaw and his wife, Michele of Treasure Lake, PA, E. Lori Smith and her husband, Thomas of Pottsville, PA and Brenda Hoover and her husband, Donald of Hatboro, PA.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Kassie Smeal, Karisa Mann, Shelbie Hubler, Kurtis Shaw, Courtney Rohrbacker, Tyler Smith, Tiffany Smith Paterson, Kayla Hoover and Ashley Hoover, Lacie Evans, Adam Butler, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, long-time companion Edward Burmul, one sister, Doris McGonigal Botkin, and one brother, Carl McGonigal.
Shirley was a Christian by faith. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and her annual trips to the beach with her family. She was a member of the “Gabba Girls,” Orioles Nest, and various social clubs in Pennsylvania and Florida. Her true joy was spending time with her large loving family.
A heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Clearfield Hospital and Mt. Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion in taking care of our beloved mother and grandmother.
Friends will be received at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, 312 E Locust Street, Clearfield, PA 16830, on July 17, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Gary Jewart will officiate the celebration of life.
