VERO BEACH – William (Bill) DuRie, 75, of Vero Beach, formerly of Wyckoff, N.J., and Normandy Beach, N.J., died peacefully with family surrounding him on Monday, April 9, 2018, at Lawnwood Medical Center in Ft. Pierce. Born in Rahway, N.J., Bill graduated from Rahway High School, Class of 1960 and Norwich University, Northfield, Vt., Class of 1964.
He served six years in the New Jersey National Guard. Bill had a long and distinguished career in finance beginning at General Motors, through Lotepro Corp, the US subsidiary of Linde A.G. and retiring from Cappelli Industries in Valhalla, N.Y.
He was a member of the Moorings Yacht & Country Club, Vero Beach, President of the board of directors at Spinnaker Point Association at the Moorings in Vero Beach, member of Ridgewood (NJ) Country Club, and member and past Commodore of Normandy Beach (NJ) Yacht Club.
The epitome of a gentleman, Bill always had a smile and approached everything with optimism. He was incredibly kind and thoughtful, and his work ethic earned him the respect of his peers. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed playing golf, but was happiest out on the water in his boat.
Bill is survived by Marcia, his loving wife of 50 years; and his two sons, Randy (Springfield, N.J.) and Stephen (Pompton Lakes, N.J); four grandchildren Ella, Owen, Teddy and Kiersten; as well as his sister, Harriet, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.
He was predeceased by his sister, Judy.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach.
