UPDATE: Checkers corp. claims the lease on the restaurant is expiring, but property manager Kirk Von Stein says Checkers allegedly owes him 3 months in payments.
There’s been a lot of discussion as to why Checkers is closed in the Roseland Plaza.
About two weeks ago, we noticed that Checkers was closed. Not everyone has realized it yet; people are still trying to order from their drive-thru menu.
There was a rumor that Checkers closed after one of its employees contracted COVID-19. It’s just a rumor, and it’s false, as no one ever contracted coronavirus at the restaurant.
We then checked their health inspection, even though there’s no sign on the windows or doors suggesting that they were closed by the inspector. All health inspections checked out good.
There are signs on the windows indicating they will reopen soon, but it’s been a long time since they closed.
Checkers Corporate told us that the restaurant closed because of a lease that’s soon expiring.
“The Checkers closure on Roseland Road wasn’t due to a failed inspection. Rather, the franchisee of this location closed the restaurant because his lease is expiring,” spokesperson Kim Francis told Sebastian Daily.
However, property manager Kirk Von Stein claims Checkers is allegedly three months behind in payments.
We’re not sure when or if Checkers will reopen at this location.
