Sebastian restaurant health inspections for October 2022

The month of October wasn’t bad for most restaurants that had a visit from the state health inspector in Sebastian, Florida. However, some places didn’t do well.

Sandy’s Grille and Sebastian Roadside Restaurant had the best health inspections in Sebastian, but the Mulligans Beach House and Portside Pub & Grille didn’t do too well.

Mulligans Beach House

The Mulligans Beach House, located at 806 SE Indian River Drive in Sebastian, had 12 violations, one of which was as a high priority for cooked fresh potatoes in a fryer basket held at 121 degrees instead of the required 135 degrees.

Some basic violations included a buildup of food debris on equipment near the fryers, ceiling tiles and vents containing dust in the kitchen, and no paper towels or hand-drying device at a handwashing sink. In addition, there was no soap provided at the sink near the bar, and the floor in the ice machine storage was “heavily soiled,” according to the inspector. All violations were corrected during the inspection.

However, their inspection has improved since March 2022, when they had 23 violations.

Twisted Pickle Deli

The Twisted Pickle Deli, located at 8980 U.S. Highway 1, Unit 4, in Sebastian, had 8 violations, with two of them labeled as a high priority for storing raw chicken over cucumbers and a cream cheese blend sitting on a front counter for 1 hour at 67 degrees instead of the required 41 degrees. All violations were corrected during the inspection.

The basic violations included things like a food item not labeled with a date, and no proof of required state-approved employee training to staff. But besides those items, they didn’t do too badly with their health inspection.

Sandy’s Grille

Sandy’s Grille, located at 171 Sebastian Blvd. (CR-512) in Sebastian, only at 5 violations for things like some gravy that was a few degrees off when stored and a knife not dried before placing it into the sanitizer.

But with only 5 violations and being as busy as they are, they had the best health inspection during October in Sebastian.

Portside Pub and Grille

The Portside Pub and Grille, located at 717 Coolidge St, in Sebastian, had 14 violations, one labeled as a “high priority” for not having date labels on cooked food items stored longer than 24 hours. Some of the food items were rice, vegetables, and ribs. All violations were corrected during the inspection.

Some of the basic violations were for ceiling and tiles with dust in the kitchen, clean utensils stored in a dirty rack, dirty kitchen floor, a dirty microwave, dirty shelves in a reach-in cooler, an open flour container inside a storeroom with no lid, no soap provided at a handwashing sink, and no proof of required state approved employee training to staff.

Sebastian Roadside Restaurant

The Sebastian Roadside Restaurant only had 6 violations. Some of the violations were for storing ice on the floor, storing an ice scoop on the top of the ice machine, and the temperature of a meat roast was a couple of degrees cooler than the required 135 degrees. All violations were corrected during the inspection.

However, the Roadside Restaurant has been consistent with its health inspections for years, with fewer violations than most establishments in Sebastian.

No Name Bar

The No Name Bar, located at 490 U.S. Highway 1 in Sebastian, had 10 violations, with one labeled as “high priority” for storing cooked pork at 54 degrees and cooked meatballs at 49 degrees instead of the required 41 degrees. All violations were corrected during the inspection.

Some of the other violations included a black mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine, carbon dioxide/helium tanks not adequately secured, ice buildup in the reach-in freezer for glasses, no copy of their latest inspection report available, and a light at the prep/bar area soiled with grease, according to the health inspector.
