Our community was extremely excited when we discovered that Sebastian’s original Train Depot would be brought back into town, remodeled, and made into a quaint little hotdog and ice cream shop in Sebastian, Florida.
It seemed like things were going well for Will Payne, the original owner who opened the business in January of 2021. For the most part, the community seemed to rally behind the new small restaurant.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Payne decided to sell the slice of history, and it reopened under new owner Ann-Marie Tanis on May 1, 2022.
Tanis chose to shut the business down from July 11, 2022, to September 1, 2022, to remodel and add merchandise, breakfast, and to-go food items.
When they reopened in September, they expanded their business hours to 5:00 am – 9:00 pm and served breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
For some reason, this did not fare well for Tanis. Sadly, she never got the business she expected with the new business model. So now, the once-popular Train Depot has been shut down again.
“Sebastian Train Depot is closed indefinitely due to a family emergency. Stay tuned as it transitions into a new business model under new management,” Owner Ann-Marie Tannis told Sebastian Daily.
Tanis plans to keep the lease on the property and have someone new run the business as they see fit. She already has plans in the works, so hopefully, the old train depot will not be closed for too long.
