SEBASTIAN – The Tiki Bar & Grill of Sebastian won the Golden Shrimp Award for their garlic shrimp at the 2018 ShrimpFest & Craft Brew Hullabaloo at Riverview Park.
This year’s Sebastian Shrimpfest was busy as ever, with a record number of attendees, and craft beer vendors. There was a variety of tasty seafood options. However, Tiki Bar & Grill took home the Golden Shrimp Award.
Standing behind a flat top grill was John Campbell, owner of the Tiki Bar & Grill, along with Chris Muth and Myles Bray. Campbell said he wasn’t sure how many pounds of shrimp they cooked, but they went through 250 lbs of butter.
“They paired us with a crew team, and crew parents and kids volunteered to help me cook and serve,” Campbell told Sebastian Daily.
This year’s Shrimpfest was hosted by the Rotary Club of Sebastian and the Exchange Club of Fellsmere to raise funds to support youth sports and organizations throughout North Indian River County.
Each restaurant sponsors a sports team. The teams this year were:
- Sebastian River Girl’s Basketball
- Sebastian River Wrestling
- Treasure Coast Rugby
- Sebastian River Interact Club
- Sebastian Sharks Youth Football & Cheerleading
- Boys and Girls Club Sebastian & Fellsmere
“We also had some help serving from the Boys and Girls Club. We worked hard but had a whole lot of fun too,” Campbell said.
Votes from the public determined the winner of the Golden Shrimp Award. Campbell said even though it’s a contest for the restaurants to win the award, they all worked together to make it happen.
“Special thanks to Ben from Squid Lips for thawing shrimp for everyone and Ivan from the Old Fish House for his energy and promotional skills getting the crowd involved. Pat and his crew did a fantastic job organizing the event,” Campbell added.
