Indian River Schools Superintendent Dr. David Moore, recently named Florida’s Superintendent of the Year, is now a finalist for the National Superintendent of the Year award.
This is the highest honor a school superintendent can receive in the nation.
Indian River County schools have made significant strides under Dr. Moore’s leadership. The district has soared from the 38th to the 9th position in the state, based on test scores and student achievement. The number of A-rated schools has doubled.
Moore, who has led Indian River County schools since 2019, is one of four finalists for the National Superintendent of the Year award, alongside superintendents from Peoria, Illinois; Jefferson County, Alabama; and Bentonville, Arkansas. The School Superintendents Association will announce the winner at its national conference in New Orleans from March 6th to 8th.
Earlier this month, Moore was named Florida Superintendent of the Year by the Florida Association of District Schools Superintendents and Florida School Boards Association.
Moore, a former assistant superintendent in Miami-Dade County, took the reins of Indian River County Schools in 2019. Despite facing the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, he successfully guided the district to consecutive years of academic growth, a remarkable achievement during a time of widespread learning loss.
Beyond his academic successes, Moore has fostered strong partnerships with local businesses, leading to the creation of the Indian River Education Fund. He has championed innovative initiatives like school choice, teacher retention, and data-driven decision-making. His dedication to community engagement was recently recognized with the STAR Superintendent award from the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations.
